Dear Parents and carers

Welcome back to the second half of the spring term. The snow was fabulous for the children, but we were pleased to return to normal. I’m sure that you’d like me to thank the staff for struggling in everyday to keep the school open, in spite of difficult travelling conditions and their own childcare problems.

Life Education Bus
We hope that your child enjoyed their time on the bus. Every one joined in, learning how to keep their bodies healthy, and even very shy children had their turn. The children especially liked ‘Harold the Giraffe’ who had to be helped to keep himself clean.

Cakes for Worms!
Friday 27th March. Organised by the parent governors. Bake or buy any cakes or biscuits for our cake sale table. Proceeds will go towards a wormery compost system for the garden.

Red Nose Day
Friday 13th March. Let your child paint your nose red when you arrive at Homerton and give a contribution to Red Nose Day!

Safe Collection of Children
Staff are always careful to ensure the safety of children at going home time. You can help us by:-
  • Ensuring we have up to date contact telephone numbers
  • Naming and introducing us to people who may collect your child if you are not able to
  • Leaving clear messages in the parents book
Can I also clarify guidelines if your child is to be collected by an older brother or sister.

The Children and Young Persons Act clearly states that a child under 16 looking after another child is not legally responsible for their welfare – this still sits in the hands of the parents.

Staff will therefore only hand over children in their care to known adults, or will keep a child with them if they are unsure, until satisfactory checks can be made.

Travel to School
I hope that better weather will encourage you to cycle or walk to school. The police are very concerned about the congestion in Holbrook Road and are coming along at drop off times to look at parking. They have recently given out two £30 parking offence tickets. So do park carefully.

Tesco/Sainsbury’s Vouchers
If you shop at Tescos or Sainsburys, please could you save the vouchers from now on. We will buy ICT and physical play equipment with them.   Please put your vouchers in the box in the lobby.

Owlets
Easter Holiday Club will run from Tuesday 14th April until Friday 17th April. It is closed on the first week of the holidays.

Easter Fun Day
Wednesday 1st April. An Easter Egg hunt is organised by the parent governors. No this is NOT an April Fools!

Maths on the Back Pack Loans
These packs have been made by staff and each has a Mathematical theme. Each child will have an opportunity to play with a pack at home. They will be coming home fairly soon.

Faculty trainee
This term we have lots of teacher trainees coming from the Faculty of Education to look at our ICT for the children. We also welcome a trainee teacher from the Faculty of Education who is starting her final placement here from 20th April until 19th June. She will be in South Room and will gradually take over responsibility for the class under Alex Pearson’s direction.

Easter
On Friday 3rd April we ask each child to wear an Easter hat to school. It can be as elaborate or simple as you wish, but it would be great if you could make this at home with your child. We will sing Easter songs and share
hot cross buns.

After this day we close for Easter and reopen on Monday 20th April.
