The pattern of the sessions
We believe that security and routine are important to 3 and 4 year old children so the pattern of a typical session is as follows:
· Children arrive between 9 - 9.20 a.m. or 12.40 – 1 p.m., and parents and carers help to hang outdoor clothing on coat pegs, collect name cards to self register, settle children to their self chosen activity, say ‘goodbye’ and leave. Each child receives a welcome greeting from a member of staff on arrival.
· Children are encouraged to organise their own time, to stay at an activity until it is completed, and to tidy up after themselves, either in their own class room in the garden. We see our garden as a valuable resource and it is as carefully planned for as the indoor provision. There are opportunities for climbing, balancing, riding tricycles, pulling trucks, practising ball skills, digging in the sand, observing the natural world, role play – and much, much more!
· Adults play with the children, observe, model good behaviour or introduce new skills.
· Once a week each class visits Rainbow Room, our large community room, for a physical development activity, and we also come together as a whole school to sing occassionally,
· We go out in all weathers as there is so much learning to be experienced.
All of the children's learning is through the medium of play. There is a cafe style snack table which is open for part of the session where children may have fresh fruit or vegetables which are brought from home. Access to drinking water is available at all times.

· The last 15-30 minutes are spent back in the children’s class base for circle time. This may include stories, music, singing, sharing news, and/or discussing activities.
· The session ends at 11.30 a.m. or 3.10 p.m., when parents and carers are invited into the classrooms to collect their children from the carpet area.
